Icom P7A

The Icom P7A is a dual band HT that is incredibly compact and affordable. The P7 covers 2 meters with 1.5 watts out and 440 MHz with 1.0 watt out. This HT also features very wideband receive coverage from 495 kHz to 999.99 MHz (less cellular) in AM, FM and FM-W. So you may also enjoy AM, FM and shortwave broadcasts. The IC-P7A has been designed based on user surveys which were taken at ham shows and some web sites. The minimum number of buttons provide quick and easy operation, its metal plating tuning knob and ornament line on the front panel give the IC-P7A a stylish appearance not seen on any other radios in this class. The IC-P7A has 1000 regular channels, 50 band scan edges and 200 auto memory write channels. Of course, regular memory channels can be grouped into 18 memory banks (Max. 100 channels per bank). When naming channels and banks with 6-digit letters and numbers, the IC-P7A can display the channel and bank names for easy recognition. And the P7A supports multiple scan types! CTCSS and DTCS tones are used for opening a repeater or tone squelch operation such as tone squelch and pocket beep for quiet stand-by. The pocket beep alerts the operator with a beep sound, when the transceiver receives a signal containing a preset tone.
The IC-P7 comes with: flexible SMA antenna, wrist strap, BP-243 Lithium Ion battery pack, BC164 rapid 3 hour battery charging tray and BC-145LA AC adapter. (47x81x28mm 160 g).
See the April 2006 issue of QST for a complete review of the P7A (page 75).
